Musiekfees | Music Festival

The annual music festival is a unique experience during which more than 1 000 boys participate in this cultural showcase in the Sand du Plessis theatre.

This festival was initiated by former headmaster, Dr Michau Heyns and was previously known as the Grey College Choir Festival. In 2005, the name changed to the Grey College Music Festival with the purpose of showcasing the wide variety of the Grey boys’ music talent. It also gives them the opportunity to share a stage with top artists such as Steve Hofmeyr, Laurika Rauch, Theuns Jordaan, Karen Zoid, Jennifer Jones, Charl du Plessis, Brandon October, Coenie de Villiers, Romanz, Jak de Priester, Elvis Blue, Connell Cruise, Katlego Maboe, Caroline Grace and plenty of others.

Nedbank Grey College Music Festival 2020

The concept will celebrate 15 years of Music Festivals held and focus on the current Grade 12 learners. A very special immersive marketing strategy was followed to involve not just the Grey College community, but also the public and some previous artists. The learners and staff were confronted with a completely new genre in the industry. Recordings were done in studio, visuals done separately, and even own recordings made at home. It was exciting to see how the boys enjoyed the studio set up and this brought a deep nostalgia regarding the theatre and a live audience, which can never be replaced. The marketing was done over a period of four weeks with the planned launch on 23 October 2020. The show will take the format of a live interactive studio presentation with Masters of Ceremonies interacting with the online audience and reminiscing about experiences from the past. A few moments from the past 15 years will be shown and we will showcase the talents of our current Grade 12 learners. Two very special items on the programme will be an item from staff members and the highlight of the evening, as per tradition, our “Grey in Union” celebration with our current Grade 12 learners.

This unique way of entertainment would not be possible without our sponsors: Nedbank, being the main sponsor, and NWU as the sub-sponsor. Nedbank also has a R15 000 cash prize as a lucky draw on offer that can be won on the night by someone who bought a ticket for the show. We are also grateful to the other sponsors for the prizes that can be won on the night.
