The year that was – 2020
The Covid-19 pandemic, together with the current economic environment, pose serious challenges with regards to sponsorships and more specifically long-term financial commitments to sponsorships from companies to Grey College. However, challenges often present opportunities. Although we are experiencing tougher financial times, the school’s sponsorship portfolio coped very well for the first quarter of 2020 before all the Covid-19 restrictions on events came into play and restricted the school’s extra-mural programme. We are, however, fortunate that the Grey College brand is still strong with the past successes of our various sporting codes, and the school as a whole, which enables us to still acquire funds amidst all the various economic challenges. Loyal parents and local, national and international firms are still very keen to contribute financially and to be associated with the Grey College brand in this difficult climate.
Grey Kollege se borgskappe-portefeulje het ‘n paar belangrike strukturele veranderinge ondergaan met die Tommix Trust wat nou net op Rugby fokus asook ouers wat ‘n belangriker rol speel om veral aan die kleiner sportsoorte addisionele finansiële ondersteuning te bied. Sekere borgskappe neem ook ‘n meer omvattende benadering aan deur meer as een sportkode te befonds en so ook meer ondersteuning aan ander sportkodes te bied. Ons strategie vir die toekoms is om bestaande borgskappe te behou en die verhoudings met daardie borge verder uit te bou, maar ook om nuwe ooreenkomste met maatskappye te sluit wat vir dieselfde waardes as Grey Kollege staan.
The school hereby thank every individual, parent and sponsor who contributed to the successes that Grey College has enjoyed throughout 2020, despite numerous difficulties imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The school appreciates the support in challenging economic circumstances.
